CHARITIES & NGOS
If there’s one kind of photography I love more than others it’s storytelling, especially the stories of those often marginalised in society. As well as my ongoing project in Khlongtoey, I’ve worked with several Thailand-based charities & NGOs over the years, documenting their efforts to improve lives and communities.
If you need photography for your organisation, whether it’s documentary, portraits, events or anything else, please get in touch to discuss how I can help.
DUANG PRATEEP FOUNDATION
Established in 1978, Duang Prateep Foundation is dedicated to helping children and the underprivileged in Bangkok’s Khlongtoey ‘slum’ district. Khun Prateep herself has been a teacher and community activist since the early 1970s; now into her 70s herself she still works tirelessly in the community and her organisation provides education, disaster relief, drug rehabilitation, fire safety, and other essential services in Bangkok’s most misunderstood district.
BANGKOK COMMUNITY HELP
Bangkok Community Help is an expat-founded charity that provides support for underprivileged communities in Bangkok, including feeding the homeless and disaster response. I joined them on two missions: providing free COVID testing in Khlongtoey during the pandemic, and delivering aid to flood-stricken villages in Ayutthaya.
TERRACYCLE FOUNDATION
The TerraCycle Foundation’s mission is to reduce the flow of plastic waste from rivers and canals before it can reach the ocean. In Bangkok, they have a community project to clean up the Ladphrao Canal in the north of the city, and I spent a day with them photographing their efforts.
URAK LAWOI
In 2021 I visited the island of Koh Lipe, and via a support organisation I was able to spend some time with the Urak Lawoi sea gypsies, a traditional fishing community gradually losing their land and livelihoods to tourism development on Lipe and neighbouring islands.
